MUSIC ministryThe ADULT
CHOIR is seeking new members and is open to all who take
joy in singing. The choir sings every Sunday from Rally Day in September
to the middle of June, alternating between the 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
services. They also sing on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, all Holy Week
services and at occasional interfaith services and concerts. Our contemporary music group, LED BY THE SPIRIT, rehearses in the church on Tuesday nights at 8:15 p.m. throughout the year. This group is open to all and performs periodically throughout the year including the family service on Christmas Eve. The group's director, Janis Garone can be reached by the calling the church office and leaving a message. We have a new Organist/Choir Director. His name is Mark Victor Smith and he comes to us from Astoria, Queens. Mark has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, has previously served St. John’s Episcopal Church, Brooklyn; Temple Israel of Jamaica; Salem Lutheran church, Brooklyn and St. George’s Episcopal Church, Schenectady, N.Y.; as well as being a substitute/supply organist/choir director for churches in the Metropolitan area. Mark will begin with us on September 1, 2007 with his first service on
September 9, as Nancy Szabo’s last Sunday with us is September 2,
2007. Choir rehearsals will begin on Thursday, September 13, 2007 with the Caroling Kids rehearsal from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm and the Adult Choir from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. If you are interested in joining either group, “come on down” and give it a try. Our Hand Bell Choir this year will be led by Elizabeth Cohen, with rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm starting on August 30, 2007. We have purchased some additional bells this year and would be more than happy to have some new members. You do not have to read music to be able to play the bells, so if you would like to try your hand at ringing, just meet us in the church sanctuary on Thursday evening. |
