Preschool openings at St. David’s Christian Preschool

School hours are 9:00 am to 11:30 am and 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

St. David’s Christian Preschool is a small school that teaches Christian values along with a theme based curriculum for 2-1/2, 3, 4, and 5 year olds in a safe and secure environment. Also, our staff is trained in CPR.

In the 3-year-old curriculum we teach shapes, colors and the numbers 1 through 5. Our emphasis is on teaching social skills such as sharing, taking turns and using words to express feelings and needs.

In the 4-year-old curriculum we teach the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. We review colors and shapes and teach the numbers 1 through 10. The children also learn to recognize and write their first names.Our emphasis is on kindergarten readiness skills.

The 4 year olds take at least two field trips during the year. We have programs that come to the school for the 3 year olds. We also have Guest Speakers for the whole school including a dentist or a firefighter.

We celebrate every holiday with a class party and have a Christmas Program, Thanksgiving Feast, Mother’s Day Tea and Very Important Man Breakfast as whole school events. In addition, each child celebrates his or her birthday during the year. Being an outreach of St. David’s Lutheran Church and a Christian school, we attend chapel twice a month. During chapel the pastor reads us a bible story and we sing and pray. We say grace each day before snack.

We have several mission projects in which the children participate during the year to teach then to love and help others. At Christmas we have a Mitten Tree. During Lent we collect money for Heifer International. We also sponsor a Hop-a-thon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Long Island.

Our school provides each student with a tote bag and we ask parents to provide snack each day. We provide juice. As we are aware of many allergies children might have we carefully check each snack to make sure it does not cause allergic reactions.We are a peanut free school.

We now have a 1-1/2 hour class once a week for
2-1/2 year olds!

Kindergarten Enrichment Program

A Kindergarten Enrichment Program is being offered in the afternoon, either 2 days or 3 days a week. This program reinforces what the children learn in kindergarten through interactive play and crafts.

Rates per month for 2008-2009 school year.

  • 3 year old: $114
  • 4 year old - 3 day: $156
  • 4 year old - 5day: $245
  • 2-1/2 year old Playdate: $120 per session
  • Kindergarten Enrichment 2 day: $125
  • Kindergarten Enrichment 3 day: $175

 

From The Director

As we say in chapel, “God’s love flows through us as it goes to others.” This month, of course, we will show love to our families (we are making them Valentines) and our friends (we are bringing in items to share for our Valentine parties). We will also show love to people we have never met but need our encouragement and love. We will be making Valentines for the soldiers in Iraq again this year. We want them to know they are loved especially since they are far from home. We will also host our annual Hop-a-thon for the children of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Long Island. This event will be held on February 25 & 26. If you would like to send in a donation, please write your check to MDA and place it in Mrs. Lever’s mailbox outside the Church office. The children learn about children whose muscles do not work in the same ways that theirs do. We do the hopping for them since they themselves cannot. This is another way God’s love flows through us to others.

We will be offering a new program in September for Kindergarteners. You do not need be a current student of St. David’s Christian Preschool to be eligible. The program will be in the afternoon from 12:30 to 3:00 with a choice of either 2 days at $125 per month or 3 days at $175 per month. This program will integrate play and reinforcement of what the children are learning in public school.

We always have room for another (or several other) child in our school. If you know of someone looking for a preschool, please recommend ours. When asked most of our parents say they heard of our school by word of mouth. It truly is our best way to advertise.
