/ About
WELCA Our end of year dinner at Sea Haven had a great turnout. We thanked our board members; especially Jo-ann Rey for leading our group spiritually and as president for many years, and installed the new members. Ina was awarded the "Bold Women" award by Metro New York Synodical Women. She was one of four women honored who exemplified the purpose statement of Women of the E.L.C.A. Ina's work with St. David's WELCA was cited, especially her involvement in program planning, recruiting younger women to our unit, acting as mentor for new officers, her service as Altar Circle treasurer, deacon and assisting minister.
Parkview volunteers continue to be needed; the residents enjoy and look forward so much to our visit. We continue through the summer. Feel free to bring your child with you to help the seniors with Bingo: the seniors love the children; it's a meaningful, fulfilling family activity; and you'd be demonstrating the art of volunteering to another generation. We meet at 7:15 the third Monday of each month at Parkview Nursing Home, the corner of Unqua Road and Merrick Road. Hope to see you there! Purpose
The Symbol
It is a reminder of the growth, beauty and vitality that rises out of the life-giving baptism water. About WELCA
Fellowship Groups or Circles meet monthly for Bible Study. Our Thankoffering Boxes (distributed in October and received in June) are a daily gift of gratitude to God, dedicated with prayer to the ongoing missionary work of the Church. Proceeds are forwarded to the national WELCA. WELCA assists with the Bingo program at Parkview Nursing Home on the 3rd Monday of every month at 7:15 p.m. Each circle is to send one helper each month. We are also in need of prizes for the Bingo games and they can be placed in the box located in the narthex or brought to monthly WELCA meetings. At both regular and circle meetings, in addition to our regular offering, a special offering is received for Melville (Residence for Retarded persons). At Christmas WELCA purchases and wraps gifts for one complete ward of residents. Each baby baptized in St. David's receives a hand crafted gift from WELCA. Our Christian Service projects are many and varied. We have something to do for all members and assistants. The needs of Lutheran World Relief, Church World Service and local organizations are met through gifts of time, talent and financial resources. Knitted and crocheted items for Baptismal gifts and Lutheran World Relief layettes as well as lap robes for nursing homes are ongoing needs.
